Effective January 1st, 2022:
"The No Surprises Act protects people covered under group and individual health plans from receiving surprise medical bills when they receive most emergency services, non-emergency services from out-of-network providers at in-network facilities, and services from out-of-network air ambulance service providers."
Good Faith Estimate
What is it & how does it apply to my mental health service?
According to CMS.gov, a Good Faith Estimate is the estimated cost of products or services provided by your healthcare provider. In the case of mental health counseling, a Good Faith Estimate will show you what you can expect to pay for the kind of service you are requesting.
For example, if you are requesting a 60 minute therapy session, your estimate for this service will be $190 - the fixed rate I charge for all clients. If during our session you need additional time, that amount won't be reflected in the Good Faith Estimate because the additional time would be an add-on service that was not discussed prior to your scheduled session, and therefore would not be counted in the original estimate.
